Prendre son mal en patience: To wait out an unpleasant situation, ie to grin and bear it or to weather the storm.

As seen in: « Les utilisateurs du métro de Montréal ont dû une fois de plus prendre leur mal en patience, mercredi matin, alors qu’un objet sur la voie percuté par un train a provoqué la fermeture d’une partie de la ligne orange et qu’une panne a eu lieu sur la ligne bleue. »

(Translation: “Montreal subway commuters had to weather another storm Wednesday morning when an object on the rails was hit by a train, provoking the closure of part of the orange line, while a train also stalled on the blue line.”)

Engin fumigène: A device that produces smoke, ie a smoke bomb.

As seen in: « Le service reprend graduellement dans métro de Montréal après une fermeture complète à cause de ce qui a toutes les apparences d’une nouvelle action concertée: des engins fumigènes ont été lancés sur les voies. »

(Translation: “Service is gradually resuming in the Montreal subway after a complete closure due to what looks like another deliberate action: smoke bombs thrown onto the tracks.”)
