COMMENT OF THE DAY: Hey, that’s not in iambic pentameter!

From: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2013/04/19/ontario-possible-tornado-shelburne.html

An EF0 tornado reportedly hit a small community northwest of Toronto yesterday, causing property damage, loss of power and provoking this pathetic piece of poetry:

(Believe it or not, someone actually took Darryl up on his offer and corrected his text.  And here I thought the teachers were no longer on strike…)

COMMENT OF THE DAY: “Unemployed stupid people” are more likely to have an outburst online without actually reading the article in question…

From: http://www.citytv.com/toronto/citynews/news/national/article/220032–survey-finds-2-per-cent-of-respondents-don-t-believe-in-climate-change

A new online study by Regina-based IPAC-CO2 Research Inc suggests that a mere two per cent of Canadians believe “climate change is not occurring at all.”  Rumour has it that a similar percentage of Canadians also stated that they watch the Sun News Network.  In any case, you’d have a hard time believing the figure was so low based on the online comments in response to this survey.  No, this one wasn’t posted on the National Post, but rather Toronto entertainment channel City TV:

I’m not sure which part of this country the rednecks referenced here are said to reside in, but I’ve yet to meet a Canadian redneck that put his American counterparts to shame.  Case in point: Walt Wawra.  When you’re the laughingstock of Calgary, you know you’re doing it wrong—and he’s not even from the South.  In any case, while I won’t fault this supposedly-employed poster for commenting during regular business hours, I will say this: it clearly states in the seventh paragraph of the story that this was an online poll, not a telephone survey.  So much for that theory…

FRENCH WORD OF THE DAY: Esquisser

Esquisser: To start or to begin; also to sketch something.

(Translation: “The UN conference on climate change, which began on Monday in Durban, South Africa and will last 12 days, has a primary objective of drawing up the sequel to the Kyoto Protocol and to respond to the pressing demands of the most vulnerable countries faced with global warming.”)
