Cranking Motorhead in you car could cost ya 200 clams in Calgary…

Calgary will start using “noise snares” next week, becoming the first city to do so, the National Post reports.  The device sits on top of a cop car’s steering wheel, and reportedly “makes an audio recording of any vehicle exceeding 96 decibels and also takes a video of the vehicle, including the license plate.”  Right now, if you hit 97 db, you’re looking at a $200 dollar fine—or roughly the cost of four Motorhead tickets.

The loudest band on earth allegedly hit 130 decibels at a concert in Cleveland, as reported by Spin Magazine in 1986.  Apparently, Manowar and KISS have since topped that, according to Wikipedia, but c’mon, the former poses in loincloths and the latter wears makeup on stage.  Neither is truly deserving of that title, if you ask me!

In any case, whether it’s Motorhead, KISS or Manowar (lol) blasting from your car speakers, if you crank it up to 11 and hit 130 on the noise snare, you might wanna stay clear of Cowtown for the next little while…
