The Bank of Canada has caused a kerfuffle after announcing that they had originally intended to put an Asian female scientist on the new 100-dollar bill, before negative focus-group feedback (particularly from Quebec, as per CTV) led to them quashing the idea, opting for a “neutral ethnicity” (read: white) woman after such enlightened comments as “The person on it appears to be of Asian descent which doesn’t rep(resent) Canada. It is fairly ugly.”  Couldn’t they have just kept this c-note switcharoo under wraps, in order to avoid the wrath of the Chinese Canadian National Council?  Or better yet, stuck with the noble and majestic snowy owl, as this commentor suggests?

Hey, I see what you were trying to do there, but I think your backyard/back-pocket metaphor came up a bit short.  It almost makes it look like you’ve actually a buncha fiddys in yer backyard, and that you’ll hand over the dough to anyone who looks at you the wrong way.  Gee, I hope you don’t live in North Winnipeg…
