When they announced that an Eyehategod Live DVD would be released earlier this year, I was actually a little disappointed when I saw that it featured a full set recorded live in Cleveland. You see, I had actually seen them the nite before that Cleveland gig in Rochester, and was kinda kicking myself for not going those extra few miles to end up on tape. (I’ve been to Peabody’s a couple times, and that place gets a good, lively crowd out for metal gigs, so I can see why they’d film it.) I’ve yet to see said DVD in any stores here in T.O., so I had kinda forgotten about it, until I came across this trailer of them playing “Blank,” pieced together from footage of a few different gigs–including the one in Rochester.
I immediately recognized the Bug Jar logo at the back of the stage, and my heart skipped a beat. I knew the show was filmed, cuz the Bug Jar’s back room is kinda small, so they project a video onto TV screens for the unlucky people who get stuck in the cavernous front bar. But I didn’t figure the band had that footage. Being that I’d taken the trip down from Toronto from this gig, I made a point of getting right up front, and sure enough, I spotted myself in the Bug Jar clips (I’m the guy with the hat). Twas quite the evening, with the place completely packed to the tits. That hat would later get knocked off (accidentally) by Brian Patton, before Mike IX Williams pulled my hair at the end of the set.
Man, I dunno if there’s any more Rochester footage on that DVD, but if there is, I might hafta go ahead and order it…
