Lotsa sour Krauts in Frankfurt as spilled saurkraut stalls traffic on the Autobahn!

As the European cold wave continues, an accident on the German Autobahn backed up traffic for 10 kilometres yesterday morning.  It seems that a truck carrying “hundreds of packages” of sauerkraut crashed into another vehicle, spilling its contents onto the highway.

With temperatures well below zero, the picked cabbage burst out of plastic bags, froze and became stuck to the road outside of Frankfurt.  According to police, the closed highway had to be “partially salted” so that the kraut could be scraped off, with TheLocal.de estimating 100,000 Euros worth of damage.

As a few locals have commented, it’s too bad there wasn’t a bratwurst truck nearby.  Mmm, bratwurst…
