As it turns out, The House that Jerry Jones built is said to be slightly more expensive—a reported $1.3 billion dollars—but work on the parliament building, to the tune of an estimated $1.17 billion, won’t be completed until 2017. And by then, it’s bound to be even more expensive. As The Canadian Press reports, renovation estimates have risen from $769-million in 2005 to $863-million in February 2011 and up to the current 10-figure price tag—and that doesn’t even include a separate, $425-million reno estimate for the building across the street.
As per the CP, upgrades to the 153-year-old structure “involve masonry restoration, removal of asbestos, seismic upgrades and a new roof and windows.” But unless they’re also getting a mile-long Jumbotron for that money, it seems the government is getting a raw deal!
