Who said those karate lessons wouldn’t pay off?

A competition-winning karate student had to apply her self-defense skills immediately after taking home the prize in Fresno, California.  As The Fresno Bee reports, Jannine Ramirez spotted an intruder in her apartment when she got home and immediately kicked into action.  “She kicked down her bathroom door, then kicked the intruder through a shower door. She continued with an onslaught of kicks and punches until he was outside her apartment on the 2500 block of Maple Avenue.”

As it turns out, the intruder was allegedly an intoxicated new neighbour, who the booze had convinced he was breaking into his own pad.  Wilberto Zapata was allegedly washing up in the bathroom when Ramirez kicked down the door.  “As she pushed and punched him out of her apartment, she said Zapata kept yelling that he lived there,” The Bee reports.  Except that he didn’t; the 18-year old was cited by police for “unlawful entry into a home,” though he was later released from jail.

“He sort of did deserve it,” Ramirez told her local paper.  “If he hadn’t broken into my house, it wouldn’t have happened.”  Did I mention she’s only a yellow belt, who “expects to be promoted” to orange next month?  Mr. Miyagi must be proud!
