Not only are there sand traps and water hazards at San Juan Hills Golf Club in California, but you also gotta watch out for falling sharks. The Capistrano Dispatch is reporting that “a 2-foot-long shark was spotted thrashing about on the 12th tee box” at the par 71 course on Monday. “It was just wriggling around,” Director of Club Operations Melissa McCormack told the Dispatch. “Honestly, this is the weirdest thing that’s happened here.” I take it John Daly has never played San Juan Hills, then?
The leopard shark, known for its black spots, is believed to have been airlifted from the Pacific Ocean, less than four miles away. It was spotted with blood on its dorsal fin, and people think it could have been picked up by a falcon or an osprey—or a prankster. ”I have heard and seen instances [of shark smuggling],” a local aquarist said. “You hate to think a human could do this.”
In any case, the creature was brought back to the ocean by a golf cart attendant, where it reportedly “did a twist and shot off into the water.” Looks like that species won’t be starring in Jaws II: Land Shark anytime soon…
