Though sludge metal’s roots lay largely in Louisiana, having oozed outta New Orleans in the late 80′s, a state some 700 miles East has turned into a veritable sludge factory of late. With one of its most recent exports, Royal Thunder, hitting Toronto on Tuesday, here’s a handful of Georgia sludge bands that’re good shit.
2. Kylesa

Some people may prefer Black Tusk or Baroness, but when it comes to the Savannah scene, gimme Kylesa any day. These progressive sludgesters boast two guitarists, two singers–and two drummers, which is something you don’t see every day. Alas, it’s been a couple years since we’ve had any new material from this outfit, though they do have a compilation rarities record due out November 16th. Here is a trailer for said release:
