Y’know, that show The Mindy Project’s actually not that bad…

A recent study shows that men under a lot of stress tend to find larger ladies attractive.  Well, I am getting close to deadline on a major project at work, so perhaps that explains why I’ve actually quite enjoyed the first couple episodes of new FOX sitcom The Mindy Project.  Created by and starring Mindy Kaling of The Office fame, it airs right after New Girl–another show that’s been a bit of a guilty pleasure for me for a little while now–and like New Girl, it features a quirky female lead in the titular role.

Kaling’s “Mindy” (her character shares her first name, kinda like the last couple Charlie Sheen vehicles) is a slightly-overweight chatterbox who grew up on romantic comedies and is constantly coming up short in her search for romance.  She also happens to deliver babies for a living, and shares an office with a cast that includes NYC tough guy Danny Castellano (played by Chris Messina, who’s been seen recently in The Newsroom and Damages) and her English fuck-buddy Jeremy Reed (Ed Weeks, who’s mostly done British TV) who can’t commit to anything.  Throw in a new male nurse who happens to be an ex-con and a bit of an odd fellow, and you’ve got a doctor show that’s a long way removed from the beautiful people of Grey’s Anatomy or the serious drama of ER.  Not sure how long this one will last, but it’s been good for a few laughs thus far.

On another Tuesday TV note, Ink Master, the best of the tattoo-competition reality shows (I know there’s a couple more out there), is airing its two-hour, two-episode season premiere on Spike tonight.  It starts at 10–which is right after The Mindy Project.  Suffice to say I’ll be spending a couple hours in front of the TV this evening!
