Missouri Republican Senate nominee Todd Akin has found himself in hot water over his comments about abortion in the event of rape, stating that “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.” Oddly enough, it’s not the completely bogus second part of that sentence that has people the most upset, but rather the suggestion that not all rape is legitimate.
