Ted Nugent, in case you didn’t know, is not a left-winger. The man who once famously told a concert audience that Obama and Hillary Clinton could suck on his machine gun has taken it one step further in this election year by saying that Obama and company are coyotes that need to be shot and encouraged fans to “ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.” And whodathunkit, making these kinds of threats against the president of the United States has earned the Motor City Madman a visit from the Secret Service.
Opinions on online news sites range from “Nugent should be in jail” to “he was just expressing his opinion,” and fair enough, but in a country where the First Amendment grants freedom of speech and the Second the right to bear arms, where does a gun enthusiast threatening to kill the president fall in the court of law? Apparently, Nugent seems to have precedent on his side. According to CNN, the Supreme Court ruled in favour of a draft-dodging hippie in the 60’s who said “If they ever make me carry a rifle the first man I want to get in my sights is LBJ,” referring to then-President Lyndon B. Johnson.
In any case, if they do attempt to arrest him, Nugent can always plead insanity due to a bad case of Cat Scratch Fever…
Yep, ass that he is, Nugent is allowed to imply that he will shoot the President. If he actively plans it, that is another matter.
